Meet the Coach

Kateen Solberg is the coach and founder of The Deviant Coach, LLC.

Kateen began coaching in 2014 to help people find their own way of being in a world that has numerous expectations of who a person should be.

Prior to pursuing a career as a coach, Kateen spent over 15 years in both the non-profit and corporate worlds following the expected career paths each brought; working as a trainer, manager, and program administrator.

Today, Kateen focuses her energy on individuals who wish to deviate towards a life of self-integrity in a world that often expects self-abandonment.

 FAQs

  • To deviate means to “depart from an established course.” Society has led us to believe that doing that is somehow dangerous, and therefore “bad.” The word itself though, is not morally obliged to be bad. The Deviant Coach attributes immense courage to those who choose to depart from their established course of life.

  • Think of all the greats; great athletes, great musicians, great entrepreneurs, great artists, etc. The one thing they all have in common is someone who coached them. Their coach believed in them and held them accountable to the dream which that individual aspired to.

  • Simply put, coaching deals with the present and how choices made now can determine/affect the future. Whereas counseling looks at the past, and unpacks how it has determined/affected the present. Both are valuable practices to engage in.

  • When seeking out a coach, a person is looking for an advocate to engage them in a thought-provoking and creative process which will empower them to be their own advisor. Whereas when seeking out a consultant, a person is looking for an expert in a particular field to advise them on how to move forward. Both practices empower individuals in different ways.

  • The practice of coaching is a skill that Kateen has utilized since 2014. She began her formal training in 2017 when she attended a two year International Coaching Federation (ICF) credentialed program.
